At 22,560 feet (6,887 m) Ojos del Salado, a stratovolcano, is the world's highest active volcano. Although no historic eruptions have been recorded, fumaroles are active at the summit. The absence of recorded historic eruptions may be due to the volcano's remote location more than a lack of eruptions.
