Lewotolo is an active stratovolcano with eight explosive eruptions from its central vent since 1660. Most of the eruptions are moderate in size (VEI=2) with the exception of the 1660 eruption which was moderate to large (> VEI=3). An eruption from the K2 crater in 1852 lasted less than one day but caused damage.
