Cereme is an active stratovolcano in east Java. Cereme has had six historic eruptions between 1698 and 1951. Most of the eruptions are moderate in size (VEI=2) and explosive. The only moderate-large eruption was in 1698 and caused fatalities and damage. In this MSS image clouds obscure the northeast flank of the volcano. Image courtesy of the Landsat Pathfinder Project.
