This is a view to the northwest showing the relationship between the main cone of Volcan Santa Maria (right) and the Santiaguito dome (center). This photo was taken a few minutes after one of Santiaguito's explosions and the plume is rising off and blowing south (to the left). Just below the weather cloud that obscures part of the main volcano, you can see the boundary between the collapsed (unvegetated) and un-collapsed (vegetated) flanks. Almost all of this collapse occurred during the big 1902 eruption.
