18 August 2000
On 17 August, Indonesian officials banned climbing on the Mount Kaba Volcano. Since
the 7.3 earthquake occurred on 3 June 2000, the seismic activity at Mount Kaba has increased.
All three of Mount Kaba's craters have been releasing smoke. Geologists are
drilling around the craters to channel lava, steam, and gas out in an attempt
to prevent an eruption.
