Cayambe is in the Eastern Cordillera of the Ecuadorean Andes (0.03S 78.0W). It is a Holocene compound volcano which has not erupted in historical time. Notice the bright glaciers on its summit, and the massive lava flows or mud flows that have travelled far down valleys on the east side of the volcano.
