
Round Butte is a cinder cone that is on a shield volcano. Round Butte is
in the Deschutes Basin about 5 miles (8 km) southwest of the town of
Madras. Round Butte erupted about 3.97 million years ago. One lava flow
from Round Butte entered the Deschutes River and formed pillow basalts.
