Looking northwest to Fumarole Butte, a 900,000 year old
shield volcano in west-central Utah. A volcanic neck marks the vent of
the volcano at the summit of the shield. Snow-capped peaks of the
Wasatch Mountains in distant background.
The volcanic neck of Fumarole Butte rises 100 feet (30
m) above the shield volcano.
