The Valle de Bove in the final days of the 1992-1993 flank eruption. The
gas-emitting vent in the foreground glowed brilliantly red at night, like
the entrance to Hades. The black lava field in the valley also glowed red in
many places, a cooling lava lake. We also saw the roof of an active lava
tube collapse that night. Comments by Mike Lyvers.
