Gardu Pandang

Gardu Pandang is a small park that provides, on clear weather days, a panorama of Merapi. This area was affected by pyroclastic flows on November 22, 1994 and January 17, 1997. Lahars have killed people in the Boyong River (bottom left) and pyroclastic surges have killed people on the rim of the gorge (note dead trees). Gardu Pandang is near the tourist resort of Kaliurang.
